4K North Star Trails and Milky Way Photography in Pine Valley, Utah · Polaris Vinyl
Long exposure night photography from Pine Valley, Utah. These two sets of photographs capture star trails and our night sky. These sets helped me determine the correct exposure and optimal time for night photography at nearly 7,000 feet (2100 meters) above sea level. The first set of photographs, Polaris Vinyl, faced the north star (Polaris) and was photographed for over one hour in Pine Valley, Utah, USA.The second set of photographs, Milky Way Rising, faced east and was photographed for over two hours in Pine Valley, Utah, USA. Next time, I will cut the exposure time in half while reducing the Milky Way’s star trails.Equipment used: Mirrorless camera, 14mm lens at f/1.8 lens, sturdy tripod, cable release

Giant Carpenter Bees on Wisteria
Giant carpenter bees buzzed by my head as I tried to steal a shot. My heart raced every time one of them flew near my ear. Luckily, Debbie’s wisteria plants had plenty of blossoms to keep them occupied.
On a side note, does anyone have a good solution for seasonal allergies?
Please make a vaccine for allergies.

Alex Boyé at the Sugarloaf
My wife asked me to take some photos today for a school field trip. Luckily, the field trip was at Dixie Rock which is one of my favorite places to hike around and shoot photos. While they were up on the Sugarloaf shooting a music video, I hiked around and snapped some pictures of the event. After about an hour, I thought I heard someone repeatedly shouting my name. I thought I must be delirious from the sun, or the fact I didn’t eat breakfast. I kept hearing, “Joe Cowdell! Joe Cowdell!” Feeling anxious, I called my wife to double-check my sanity. She reassured me that it was Alex Boyé calling my name and that my daughter, just talked to him. I didn’t really know who he was before today, and I doubt I will forget this memorable day at the Sugarloaf.
