  • Petrified Polliwog Puddle

    Photography for TEDxStGeorge at Electric Theater was done the night before. Jami Lah had more in store for us. Exploring and soul-searching near Petrified Dunes in Snow Canyon State Park was our first adventure of the day. A short hike, followed by a calming breathwork and yoga session with Ryan Bean yoga was phenomenal. Afterward, I decided to continue hiking and photographing the beautiful surroundings. While I was hiking around I saw some reflections in rain puddles that caught my eye. That’s not all, as the tiny creatures fluttered about just under the surface. They are baby toads or frogs or who knows what. Some people call them polliwogs, and some call them tadpoles. They are amphibians, and I don’t know how they got there.

    A tasty Bear Paw Cafe lunch was our goal, but I decided to make a pit stop in MOFACO Utah (Modern Farm and Artist Co-op) on Main Street, St. George, Utah, USA. I spoke to a friendly painter/educator named Ash Swenson at the register. She let me know she teaches painting classes and had some of her artwork displayed in the store. We continued to talk while she showed me her paintings and told me about the paint event classes she teaches. Beyond Color Art is the name of her business and her card gave this info: beyondcolorart.com and Instagram @color.beyond  In the end, I asked if I could take a quick portrait.

    I recently learned how to use the laser cutter in the basement of St. George, Utah Public Library. Makerspace is a fantastic “free” resource for all Washington County residents with a library card. Joe Larson is there to answer most questions when learning how to use machines in the Makerspace. Last week, I tested my newly acquired skill of using a laser engraver. Using scrap material, I laser engraved some scrap acrylic, scrap plywood, and my phone case! All the pieces turned out quite well, and I am very impressed with the results. Check out the Makerspace for all your making needs including:

    • bandsaw and other woodworking

    Wednesday 1:00 pm — 8:00 pm
    Thursday 10:00 am — 5:00 pm
    Friday 1:00 pm — 6:00 pm
    Saturday 10:00 am — 2:00 pm

    How much does it cost?

    3D Prints: $0.05 per gram
    Laser Cuts: $0.50 per session (No material or cardboard). Material for laser cutter may be available for purchase at Makerspace.
    Sewing: $0.50 per session (BYO Fabric)
